Planning for a Continent of Cities - Panel and Book Launch
Event description
Please join us for the launch of Dr Julian Bolleter (UWA) and Professor Robert Freestone’s (UNSW) new book, ‘Planning for a Continent of Cities: Long-range scenarios for Australian urbanisation’, published by UWA Publishing.
In the context of a projected doubling of Australia’s population, this milestone book explores a unique and thought-provoking set of continental-scale settlement scenarios that address the twin challenges of long-term spatial planning and urban governance. As Professor of City Planning Shlomo Angel at New York University describes:
Bolleter and Freestone do us a great service by thinking ahead for us. Indeed, the role of the urban planning profession revolves around advising us on what we need to do now to prepare for the future, and even for the distant future, rather than waiting until the future arrives at our doorstep and then discovering that it is too late to do anything about it. This book is both informative and insightful, essential reading for anyone who really cares about the legacy that we will leave to those who will outlive us.
The book will be launched by Western Australian Planning Commission Chairperson Emma Cole and will feature brief presentations by the authors, followed by a panel discussion with Paula Rogers, CEO of the Committee for Perth, and Western Australian Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson and PIA WA Board Director and National Vice President, Ray Haeren.
A big thank you to Hames Sharley for generously hosting the event at their city centre studio.
Books will be available for purchase on the evening.
Light refreshments will be provided. The event — and the city view — are free.
