Natural Dyeing with Anna Dunnill

Come along and learn about the process of dyeing textiles using natural materials!
Naarm based artist & writer Anna Dunnill will show you how to use various processes to decorate different textiles and materials. Learn about dyeing with food waste, leaves and flowers to make a range of colours and effects. Materials will be supplied for each workshop, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own fabrics and plant materials to experiment with! To ensure a high-quality learning experience, the number of participants is capped at 10 for each workshop – don’t miss out on a sought-after place in this class.
Workshop #1 - Saturday 16th October
Suitable for age 5–10, 2.5 hours
Decorate a calico library bag and a calico bandana/scarf.
Workshop #2 - Saturday 23rd October
Suitable for age 10—adult, 4 hours
Use bundle-dyeing and dip-dyeing processes to decorate a silk scarf and a drawstring calico backpack. Learn about mordanting with alum and iron, working with different fibres, and traditional dye plants such as madder root.
