Explore your own ancestral plant connections while we craft our own tea blend and make our own stuffed bolani bread, then together we feast!

Following their talk* of the same name, Durkhanai (of Parwana) and Keitha (of Seed Medicine Garden) are offering this more intimate workshop of sensory delight as an opportunity to personally unpack and explore the concepts raised in the talk (Wed 4 Oct).

Together, we will craft an intuitive tea blend to take home, working with several medicine herbs while remembering our innate skills of how to communicate and connect with healing plants.
As well as cook delicious bolani, an Afghan stuffed flatbread - with multiple vegetarian fillings using flour from Native Australian grains. As we enjoy our sumptuous "tea and bolani", all the while there will be space for those attending to begin reconnecting with their own ancestral plants through food, seeds and herbs. These plants are family - tangible memories of homelands, waiting to be remembered and offering us much healing and nourishment as we do.

Writer/Restaurateur, Durkhanai Ayubi tells the stories of her ancestral food and people. Herbalist/Farmer Keitha Thuy Young tells the stories of seeds and their people. When the two come together they offer a rich tapestry of storytelling, interwoven to awaken a sense of history in food crops and traditional recipes. Both their work explores themes of displacement, reconnection, and reclamation and the notion that by practicing an active re-membering of foods from our ancestral lineages, either through growing or cooking (but always sharing), there is the possibility of healing through returning our self-understanding to the land and nature we are all part of.
