Plants are family - and their living memory create tangible threads to our home lands. Join Durkhanai & Keitha for a cup of tea and an evening of storytelling to remember the deep connections we share with our ancestral food + medicine plants.

Writer/Restaurateur Durkhanai Ayubi (of Parwana) tells the stories of her ancestral food and people. Herbalist/Farmer Keitha Thuy Young (of Seed Medicine Garden) tells the stories of seeds and their people. When the two come together they offer a rich tapestry of storytelling, interwoven to awaken a sense of history in food crops and traditional recipes. Both their work explores themes of displacement, reconnection, and reclamation and the notion that by practicing an active re-membering of foods from our ancestral lineages, either through growing or cooking (but always sharing), there is the possibility of healing through returning our self-understanding to the land and nature we are all part of.

This talk is a warm offering on these themes in conversation with artist Amber Rose Cronin, intended to help each of us remember the plant kin who have shaped who we are, to feel reconnected to where we've come from and to encourage a healing relationship with the land and the plant kin who nourish us.

Note: There is also a more intimate workshop of sensory delight with the same name (Sun 8th Oct) as an opportunity to personally unpack and further explore the concepts raised in the talk, while we make a sumptuous feast of tea + bolani together.
