Join The Wetlands Centre's Conservation Nursery experts to uncover the art of propagating native species. Led by a passionate team of conservation horticulturalists, botanists, and volunteers, the nursery is a space for biodiversity, annually cultivating thousands of plants for gardens, revegetation, and wetlands. In this session, you will discover some secrets of propagating and nurturing native Western Australian plants using locally sourced materials, as well as the methods of propagation of our local plant families.

11:30 pm - Join the Centre’s Nursery Manager for a bush walk on the wetland and surrounding area
12:10 pm - Invitation to visit and buy plants at the nursery

About the Facilitator:

Hazel Dempster

Hazel Dempster, an expert in West Australian native plants, has contributed to the Wildflower Society of WA for over 50 years and is an Honorary Life Member. She shares her vast horticultural knowledge generously, often speaking and demonstrating at various events. Since 1996, Hazel has been involved in the Environmental Weeds Action Network, serving as president from 1999 to 2002. She has also played a significant role in securing Federal funding for the National Cooperative Research Centre for Weed Management Systems and has actively participated in numerous national conferences. She has produced numerous publications and fact sheets, and contributes to local government planning and sustainability strategies. At The Wetlands Centre Conservation Nursery, Hazel's expertise in propagation has been invaluable. Her dedication to Australian plants was recognised with the Australian Plants Award at the 2013 ANPSA Conference in Queensland.

Lanie Cottam

Lanie brings a vital blend of expertise and dedication to our environmental conservation efforts. Her specialized knowledge in horticulture and conservation land management, combined with hands-on experience in plant health monitoring and ecosystem restoration, empowers her to lead our nursery with a keen focus on sustainability and native species propagation.
