"Plant to Protect" - preparing the props

This event has passed Get tickets

    Event description

On Tuesday 4 July, we need to prepare thousands of these paper figures, to create a powerful visual display that will attract media attention in your Park Lands.

Please come along, for an hour or more.  Choose an hour-long slot, starting at 4pm, 5pm, or 6pm, ready to use your hands in a simple repetitive task.

We'll supply the cut-out figures, sticky tape, bamboo skewers and sticky labels.

We just need to assemble them, one at a time, as we all sit around a big table.

When we've completed more than 4,000, we'll go ahead and "plant" them in Denise Norton Park / Pardipardinyilla (Park 2) a few days later, as part of a media stunt and news conference.

The aim of the exercise is to demonstrate how many people are having their views ignored, while the State Government plans to attack your Park Lands with a $135 million swimming complex, shops, offices and enlarged car park that would destroy dozens of mature trees.

We hope that the State Government will wake up, heed the advice of more than 4,700 people who've signed our petition, and build their proposed new Aquatic Centre on an alternative near-city brownfield site, close to public transport.

Help us make a powerful visual statement in support of your Park Lands by creating these thousands of paper supporters; one for each signatory on our petition.

Reserve an hour or so, for this hands-on job with fellow Park Lands supporters at the Box Factory any time between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday 7 July.

Oh, and of course, like more than 4,700 others, please sign our petition if you haven't already done so.   https://www.change.org/p/save-these-trees-choose-a-brownfield-site-for-new-aquatic-centre
