We planted trees in 2022 at Kurrajong Rd, which you might have seen grow over the last few years if you drive past!

Now, we want to add some diversity to the ground layer! We'll be planting fan flowers (scaevola albida), yellow daisies (caalotis lappulacea) and winter apples (eremophila debilis) — much to the delight of our native bees, butterflies, and bugs, who love them.

What’s the ground layer?

When we talk about the "ground layer", we're referring to the bottom layer of the soil you're planting into. This is where roots are encouraged to grow under the soil's surface. The kind of plants we plant for the ground layer are ones that prefer to grow along the ground rather than vertically towards the sun. They are generally plants that are less than 30cm tall.

Ground layer planting is important as it reduces weed growth, improves moisture retention in the soil, creates better soil structure, prevents erosion, and attracts wildlife — just to name a few things!

What can I expect?

Tools, training, and guidance on how to plant. No experience is required!
You can bring your own gloves, but we’ll provide them.
Delicious refreshments, tea, and coffee.

What do I need to bring?

Wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy closed-in shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
A bottle of water.
