Plants in Space
Event description
How plants respond to gravity and how we can engineer plants for space.
A presentation by UWA’s School of Molecular Sciences’ Dr James Lloyd and University of Leeds Dr Suruchi Roychoudhry.
Why is the field of ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space considered mission critical by NASA?
Plants for Space answer this fascinating question and more Apirl 10 at their public lecture ‘How Plants Respond To Gravity and How We Can Engineer Plants for Space’.
Join us on 1pm Wednesday afternoon at the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre theatre at The University of Western Australia to hear from Dr Suruchi Roychoudhry and Dr James Lloyd.
Roychoudhry (UWA Gledden Visiting Fellow) aims to answer all your questions on how plants respond to gravity and will discuss how plants dynamically respond to gravity signals on earth. Lloyd is a synthetic biologist who will discuss how we can engineer plant genetics to alter how they grow and what they produce for our future off-earth.
The Robert and Maude Gledden Visiting Fellowships are part of the estate bequeathed to the University by Robert John Gledden (1855-1927) to promote and encourage education and research at the University in the fields of applied science, engineering, mining or cognate subjects. Gledden Visiting Fellowships aim to support global research collaborations by providing funding to bring outstanding researchers to UWA to conduct research with a UWA host.
