Plastic Free Forum - Plastic-Free July 1st Event
Event description
Waste Sorted via the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, have funded a series of Plastic-Free related community workshops since April 2023 and the grand finale event is the Plastic Free Forum on Saturday the 1st July alongside the SJ Farmers Markets and key project partners SJ Food Farm Alliance and SJ Community Resource Centre! Â
This is an indoor expo style event, including plastic-free related market stalls, information stalls, interactive demos and kids activities - FREE ENTRY between 8am and 12 noon - what a fantastic way to kick off Plastic Free July... Every person that attends gets a FREE re-useable recycled bag (until stocks run out) - over 200 have been made with community donated material leading up to the event by the local CWA/All things Craft Shop ladies and other various community members!!
What to expect:
- FREE giveaways!! - including community boomerang/reusable bags for everyone that enters the forum, and for previous SJ Plastic Free Living program workshop attendees - free compost bins, worm farms, bokasi, free modern cloth nappies (note see the Shire's Event page click here to sign up to these (selected under SJ Plastic Free Living Program category) free workshops leading up to the event so you can collect your free sustainable product).
- FREE Information stalls and demos on plastic-free/sustainability ethos including but not limited to: composting and worm farm demo (Waste is My Resource and SJ CRC), or bring your compost sample for a free soil analysis (Earthwhile reserve your soil compost health check here), beeswax wraps demo (Waste is My Resource), preserve making demo (Hilltop Products) with free preserve making workshop spots to giveaway to those that fill out EOI, reducing waste/plastic-free lifestyle tips (Lessen with Peg), Modern Cloth Nappy Demo (The Nappy Guru, info on State Government Plastic Ban and a motivational talk and demo from Plastic-Free living advocate Lindsay Miles!!
- FREE kids activities including the Recycled Musical instrument Program (Curate)Â (and associated free raffle for painted drum), recycled plant pots (Switch Your Thinking)
- Plastic-Free related MARKET STALLS from local businesses selling some awesome handcrafted sustainable products (including but not limited to cosmetics, recycled crafts, Handy reusable products to reduce waste)Â we will list businesses here closer to event.
There will be water refill stations so BYO reusable keep cup and you have access to food trucks and local produce at the SJ Farmers Market next door so you can make your own plastic free picnic and enjoy the day out with family and friends!
