Event description
PLAY: An introduction to Bouffon & Clown
With Lutz Hamm & Logan Cole
13th & 14th March 2021 8:30-2pm
A weekend workshop to explore the basic elements of Bouffon and Clown.
Bouffon & Clown are theatre traditions that demand a sense of joy and the ability to play spontaneously on stage, developing an impertinent, audacious, even ballsy rapport with the audience. In this workshop we challenge participants to work these muscles, and introduce them to the core elements of the form.
Day One - Introduction to play; awareness of the audience & exploring the charm of the performer, with a focus towards Clown.
Day Two - Working together: developing complicité, becoming bolder with the audience relationship, and initiation to mockery, an induction into Bouffon.
Lutz Hamm and Logan Cole graduated together from Toi Whakaari, and between the two of them have studied under some of the most prominent teachers of these forms, including John Bolton, Phillipe Gaulier and Giovanni Fussetti. They bring with them a deep curiosity for how these forms sit on different people's bodies, and a perpetual desire to find the ridiculous and delightful.
18+ years of age, for younger teens, if they have worked with Lutz in the past we can address this on a case per case basis. Thank you.
