Internationally award-winning Shakespeare Actor & Director, Sally McLean, is teaching Playing The Bard: Shakespeare In Performance for the first and only time in-person this year in Melbourne - so don't miss your chance to work with one of the best!

Want to finally get to grips with Shakespeare? Looking for more options for your toolkit to enable you to delve deeper into performing his works with authenticity? Or do you feel you should be able to "do Shakespeare", but just don't know where to start?

Come join Sally through the month of February and stretch your wings in the Shakespeare realm in a fun, supportive and transformational space, nestled in nature in the stunning, European-inspired Montsalvat.

Using techniques developed over three seasons of developing and directing the critically acclaimed series, Shakespeare Republic, and new award-winning series Walking Shadows, as well as her years of teaching Shakespeare at institutions such as the Howard Fine Acting Studio Australia and the Equity Foundation, plus her extensive experience playing Shakespeare on stage and screen in both Australia and the UK, Sally brings all her knowledge and expertise to this 4 week class, enabling actors to delve deep into Shakespeare’s text, get grounded and embody character, while making Shakespeare’s language their own.

CLASS INFORMATION:

Students will be assigned a Shakespeare monologue each and then work intensively on that piece over the space of four classes – one class a week - with renowned Shakespeare teacher and award-winning actor and director, Sally McLean.

Beginners through to advanced level students welcome, as the work will be tailored to each individual student and where they are at with Shakespeare. Older teenagers (17+) are also welcome to participate.

All classes are included in the price stated. This class will also be open to auditors.

Participant bookings close February 6 to give time to assign monologues. Auditor bookings will continue until February 28.

OUTCOME: The chance to achieve a deeper understanding of Shakespeare interpretation and performance at a professional level, adding portable tools to your acting toolbox that will be useful in performing Shakespeare, but can be applied to all performance texts, learning through experience.

Participants will get:

A deeper understanding of Shakespeare performance technique;
Advice and guidance from a Shakespeare teacher and award-winning director with a vast knowledge of Shakespeare performance & interpretation;
An understanding of working with Shakespeare text using an acting process that is based in real technique and practical application; and
The chance to activate and explore your creativity and self-expression.

WELCOME TO INCOGNITA@MONTSALVAT

Incognita Enterprises is delighted to be partnering with the prestigious and historically significant Arts venue, Montsalvat, located in breath-taking surrounds in Eltham, Victoria, just 37 mins drive from the Melbourne CBD, where we will be offering a program of workshops, masterclasses and live theatrical events across the year.

Come join us for writing workshops, acting masterclasses, Shakespeare classes and other Performing Arts educational offerings for teenagers and adults. Attend entertainment industry Q&A sessions each month with experienced actors, directors and others to learn more about the film, television and theatre industries. Come along to our monthly play readings, where professional actors will read new plays from emerging and experienced playwrights.

Later in the year, we are excited to be offering two theatrical events that you won’t want to miss. A very special theatrical production, written for Montsalvat’s 90th Anniversary celebrations and a large scale immersive promenade Shakespeare theatre installation – both featuring professional actors and showcasing the Montsalvat Resident Artists’ talents and works.
