    This 'Playing with maths' workshop is running for the very first time! 

    With future ticketing starting at $25, Maths Play is celebrating both the launch of this playful, hands-on workshop AND the International Day of Maths which, in 2024, has a global theme of 'Playing with maths'.

    Limited spots available. 

    The event:

    Come along for an evening of fun games and puzzles to celebrate the International Day of Maths.

    During this one hour session, we will: 

    ✨ Share in positive ideas about learning and mathematical success  

    ✨ Explore enticing (and potentially addictive!) games and puzzles

    ✨ Learn with and from others who are interested in playful, positive and powerful mathematics


    Age:

    This session is designed for adults and children aged 10+

    Children aged 10+ are to be accompanied by an adult (unless otherwise arranged with the host).

    8:00 - 8:30 PM Time to hang back for a chat and/or keep playing with maths (optional)


    FEATURED GUEST: Andrew Lorimer-Derham — Educator, Inventor & Founder of Think Square

    Andrew is a passionate educator and inventor who creates unique ways for spreading a love of mathematics. Among Andrew's inventions are the Think Square suite of hands-on maths games, the world's first reflective clothing line namley Mirrogram, and an app called Skillhouettes that tracks and records motor skill development. Andrew currently spends most of his time running student workshops and staff PD around the idea of ‘Intentional Fun’ where he takes great pleasure in demonstrating what a joyful, imaginative and playful pursuit maths can (and should) be.


    HOST: Alex Box — Primary Teacher, Founder of Maths Play & International Day of Maths Ambassador

    Alex is an experienced primary classroom teacher who identifies as formerly maths-anxious, now maths-excitable. Alex is the founder of mathsplay.org, a community initiative facilitating collaboration among organisations and individuals on projects that support educators and learners to experience maths in playful and rewarding ways. She specialises in the use of everyday mathematical talk and a research-based teaching approach called Number Talks for building everyday confidence and sparking joy when working with numbers.
