Pleasure Club Present: DOWNGIRL 'CPR' Single Launch
DOWNGIRL finally graces Pleasure Club's stage with the launch of their new single 'CPR', featuring an onslaught of burlesque and unique performances by Bette Grumble and Rosie Rivette.
Come early to ensure entry to DOWNGIRL's takeover at a venue they consider a safe space.
DOWNGIRL's new single, 'CPR' is about a night the band spent playing a gig far from home, a night that felt off from the very beginning. They were surrounded by drunk and drugged men, and although they tried to join in and have fun, the atmosphere quickly became intense and unsafe. Later, they ended up huddled together in a small tent, sleeping with a baseball bat between them. On the drive home, they realised it was exactly the kind of situation people disappear from.
The song reflects the quiet fear that shadows women in male-dominated party spaces, the sense of being prey in someone else’s territory. There’s an unspoken understanding that you’re at their mercy, and many of us know that instinctive awareness of how easily women could become targets of male violence.
For the music video, we wanted to reclaim that fear and flip it on its head by creating a space rooted in strength, pride, and community. We centred queer joy and safety, featuring Dykes on Bikes as a symbol of power and solidarity. Directed and shot by Tim Kent (they/them), the clip celebrates the protective, vibrant spaces queer communities build — places where we can finally breathe easy.
