Poetry for Purpose: in support of global garment workers

This event has passed Get Tickets

    Event description

Join the ActionAid Australia Melbourne Activist Network and a lineup of local poets to learn about the ways we can stand in solidarity with garment workers, and create an equitable and sustainable world where all women thrive.

“We are deprived of basic needs. We are not getting enough to live… They need to know we poured our everything for making their clothes. We deserve to live like human being in safe environment.” — Rahima

The fashion industry rakes in huge profits off the backs of women like Rahima who labour for poverty wages in poor working conditions. Garment workers are demanding transparency, living wages, safe workplaces and labour rights - and here in Australia there are tangible ways that we can stand in solidarity with them.

Poets from diverse backgrounds will share their perspectives on a range of social justice issues important to them. Through these captivating performances as well as talks from ActionAid experts and activists, the afternoon will illuminate the challenges faced by those who create the clothes we wear.

As you listen, you can also enjoy the excellent food and drinks that the B-East has to offer.

Admission is free but space is limited - so please RSVP!

    Calling all poets!
