Step into an immersive afternoon of creativity, connection and sensory exploration at Poetry of Sound: Write, Paint, Sip, Connect. This unique workshop invites you to slow down, listen deeply, and express what you hear through words, colour and form.
Whether you're a seasoned writer or just curious, this event is all about tapping into the energy of sound and transforming it into art. You will be guided by three inspiring facilitators - poet and artist Elizabeth Lewis, sound explorer and poetic facilitator Lakshmi Kanchi, and guest poet Tim Kinsella, who’ll open the day with a live reading to set the tone.

Doors open early so you can get settled, pick your base colour, prepare your canvas, and write your name on the back.

Join us in the writing room for a warm welcome from Elizabeth and Lakshmi, and a brief overview of the afternoon.

Live Poetry Reading with Tim Kinsella
Be inspired by Tim’s performance, an example of the “Poetry of Sound” in action.
1:45 – 3:00pm
Creative Writing Workshop with Lakshmi & Elizabeth
Set your intention with a short meditation
Discover your unique ‘sound word’ and dive into a bustling, noisy inner landscape through poetry
Use a recording of Jupiter’s sounds to inspire a second poem and begin sketching your visual response
Opportunity to share thoughts and creations with the group

Break – Food & Wine
Enjoy some well-earned down time with wine, grazing platters and good company.

Painting & Connection
Let the writing and sounds guide your brush as we move into a relaxed painting session. Sip, paint and connect with others as your poem takes visual form on canvas.
4:50 – 5:00pm
Group Photo & Goodbyes
We will wrap up with a group photo and send you off inspired and nourished creatively and otherwise!

About the Facilitators:
Elizabeth Lewis
Elizabeth Lewis is a Burmese-Australian poet & poetry teacher living in the Boorloo/Perth Hills. Her poems are published in Quadrant, Indigo, Cottonmouth, Seagift and Poetry D’Amour. Elizabeth holds a BA in Writing from ECU (Honours Poetry). She is proud to have Chaired the KSP Writers' Centre for 5 years. She writes about family, big love and what we inherit.
Lakshmi Kanchi
Lakshmi Kanchi is a writer and a poet writing under the nom de plume, SoulReserve, and has over 1000 pieces of contemporary poetry published on her blog under the same name. Lakshmi’s poetry explores love and its tumultuousness, fantasy and zest in nature, and the inherently complicated, perpetually juxtaposed, staggeringly disjointed relationships – between history, language, culture and perception.
Tim Kinsella
Tim Kinsela is a poet from Western Australia with a deep interest in the natural world and al forms of art. He was born in 2003 in Ohio, USA, and has spent time living in Britain, Ireland and Germany. His work has placed in poetry awards and been published in literary journals. His debut colection Wingbeat was published by WA Poets Inc. in 2024.
