Poetry and Queer Joy: A workshop with Madison Godfrey
Description
Spend a Saturday morning at Fremantle Library exploring Poetry and Queer Joy with Madison Godfrey.
This workshop will utilise the work of LGBTQIA+ poets to guide participants in writing poems that celebrate their communities.
All levels of experience are welcome, whether you’re a total beginner or already immersed in poetry.
Writing materials and morning tea will be provided.
Dr Madison Godfrey is a writer, educator, researcher, and the author of two poetry collections. Their writing has been described as ‘sensual and often funny’ by The Guardian and ‘fiercely punk and undeniably powerful’ by ArtsHub.
Commencing their career as a slam poet, Madison has performed at the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Glastonbury Festival. Their most recent book 'Dress Rehearsals’ (Allen & Unwin) was celebrated as one of the best books of 2023 by The West Australian and The Guardian.
In recognition of their leadership and community advocacy, Madison was awarded a 2021 WA Youth Award for ‘Creative Contributions’ to the state. Currently they live on Whadjuk Noongar land with their one-eyed rescue cat, Sylvia.
