About Poets@Stones

Curated by renowned Queensland poet, Brett (B. R.) Dionysius, Poets@Stones is held on the last Thursday of each month, from January through to November.

Our June Poets@stones features Kim Kenyon, D. Frederick Thomas and Svetlana Sterlin on the bill.

Kim Kenyon has been an outdoor guide, an adventure-based youth worker and a sailor. These days she is an emerging writer, knees-deep in the chaos of raising tiny children. In 2025, she was Highly Commended for the Liquid Amber Poetry Prize, Commended for the Ros Spencer Prize, competed in the QLD state finals of the Australian Poetry Slam and was awarded a Faber Poetry scholarship. Her writing pays attention to the beauty of things overlooked and the imagined inner life of the inanimate. She writes from unceded Jinibara country.

D. Frederick Thomas is a Brisbane/Magandjin-based writer originally from Philadelphia whose work has appeared in publications such as FENCE, Island Magazine, The Adroit Journal and Australian Poetry Journal, as well as being twice shortlisted for the Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, Vagabond Press published Thomas’s short novel Exhibition Text, while their/his unpublished Novel Written On My Phone was recently a finalist for FC2’s Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize.

Svetlana Sterlin writes prose, poetry, and screenplays in Meanjin. A swimming coach and former swimmer, her work draws inspiration from in and around the pool, including her debut poetry collection, If Movement Was a Language. The manuscript was the 2023 winner of the Helen Anne Bell Poetry Bequest Award and is available now through Vagabond Press. She is also the founding editor of swim meet lit mag.
