Point Waylen Guided Bird Walks

This National Tree Day, we’re doing more than just putting roots in the ground; we’re looking to the skies! Alongside our community planting day, the City of Melville and the Friends of Melville Bird Sanctuary invite you to step into a thriving avian paradise.

Did you know Point Waylen is a bustling international highway for over 130 species of spectacular birds? From our iconic local Black Swans to incredible migratory birds that fly across the globe just to visit our shores, there is a whole world waiting to be discovered right in our backyard.

Grab your binoculars and join our guided bird-watching walks! It’s the perfect chance to connect with nature, see the real-world impact of our habitat restoration, and witness the breathtaking biodiversity of the Melville Bird Sanctuary.

Afterwards (or before!), get your hands dirty and plant some bird-attracting native species to directly support the Point Waylen Revitalisation Project. You can register for the community planting day here.

Important Information

Time: Join Lesley Macauley at 9:30 AM, or catch the 10:15 AM walk led by Gareth Evans and Brian Spittles. Each guided tour runs for 45 minutes.

Meeting Point: Point Waylen, Attadale (Meet at the Friends of Melville Bird Sanctuary Marquee at the eastern end of Troy Park car park)

What to bring: Enclosed shoes, water, and sun/weather protection (pack a jacket or hat, as it may be cold or damp!).

Ideal for: Open to all ages, from beginners to advanced bird-watchers.
