Policy Talks 2024: Policy for a Gender Equitable Future

A discussion of how governments can drive workplace gender equity

As the largest employer in the Southern Hemisphere and the largest employer of women in Australia, the NSW Government plays a critical role in shaping equitable working lives for women.

Following the NSW Budget handed down on 18 June, the speakers will discuss the NSW Gender Equality Budget Statement as well as case studies and approaches to advancing workplace gender equity. The discussion will draw on insights from Building a more equitable future of work for women in NSW: Opportunities for government action, a JMI Policy Challenge Grant winner. This will be followed by a Q&A and networking drinks.

Speakers include:

  • The Hon Courtney Houssos MLC, Minister for Finance, Minister for Domestic Manufacturing and Government Procurement, and Minister for Natural Resources
  • Annie Pettitt, Acting Director in NSW Treasury’s Women’s Economic Outcomes Team
  • Professor Rae Cooper AO, Director of the Australian Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusion @ Work, University of Sydney
  • Professor Elizabeth Hill, Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusion @ Work, University of Sydney

Policy Talks is a series for policy professionals and researchers designed to galvanise discussions around some of the most complex public policy issues. Held in collaboration with the NSW Policy Community of Practice, these events aim to build a community of policy professionals that reaches across sectors and foster innovation and inclusivity in policymaking at all levels of government. Policy Talks was launched in May with an event on Affordable and Accessible Housing.
