    Event description

Writers have to act as copy editors and proofreaders to polish their prose, even when hiring professionals or receiving feedback from friends. Observing how others approach copy editing and proofreading can provide valuable insight for self-evaluation of our own work. Join Amy Cecil Holm, Allegory Editing copy editor and proofreader, on June 20, 2024, for a polishing session using writing samples submitted in advance by workshop attendees.

To have your writing sample considered for the session, please email five double-spaced pages of your work as a Microsoft Word document to amy@allegoryediting.com by Friday, June 14. Amy will use approximately five samples during the workshop. All prose genres are welcome, and all submissions will remain anonymous (unless you let Amy know otherwise). Feel free to provide a bit of context about your manuscript in your email, but it's not required.

Presenter Bio: As a copy editor and proofreader, Amy draws upon decades of teaching college English to help authors polish their prose. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in creative writing and has worked as a journalist, technical writer, and educator. Over her nearly thirty-year career, Amy has taught courses in English composition, literature, creative writing, journalistic writing, business writing, and developmental reading, among others. She has a keen understanding of grammar, punctuation, and diction and uses her careful attention to detail to help prepare manuscripts for submission and publication.
