The 2022 federal election saw the largest increase in community independents in Australian history. At this one-off special event hear from the people with unique insight into the success of the community independent movement and what it might mean here in Bonner. 

At this event you will:

  • hear inside stories from key people who sparked this movement, 
  • learn about the key ingredients of successful community-led independent movements, and
  • have the chance to ask your questions about this unique political moment.

This will be an inspiring evening, with opportunities to meet like-minded people who are passionate about people-powered politics.

Speakers

Phil Haines: Phil was Cathy McGowan’s campaign manager when she defeated then Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella and in 2016 when she again defeated Mirabella standing as the Liberal candidate. Phil is married to the current Member for Indi, Helen Haines and has been her campaign manager for her two successful independent campaigns. He lives outside Wangaratta on a small beef cattle property.

Suzie Holt: Suzie ran as a community independent in the seat of Groom in QLD at the last Federal election. She came very close to winning. Her policy platform, was derived from community consultation and included funding for a local agricultural school, a medical teaching and healthcare precinct, renewable energy, environment and liveability, a food and agribusiness precinct.
