Pollinator walk at Como House & Gardens

Discover the incredible world of pollinating insects at the historic Como House Gardens this spring to celebrate Australian Pollinator Week 2026.

Join us on a special spring pollinator walk through the beautiful Como House Gardens.

The walk will be guided by entomologist Dr Ian Smith to explore all the many important flying, crawling and wriggling insects that pollinate our garden blooms.

Attendees will be supported to observe pollinating insects with a range of observational tools and take photos using the free iNaturalist app to help document the diverse species found.

What to bring: 

• a smartphone or camera to take photos of insects

  • download the free iNaturalist app before the event from Apple App Store or Google Play and set up your free account (watch our 2021 iNaturalist training video to learn more about using the app)

• comfortable shoes for strolling through the gardens

• weather-appropriate clothing.

This event is a collaboration between the City of Stonnington and the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).

Bookings are essential as spaces are limited.

About Dr Ian Smith

Dr Ian Smith is an entomologist and natural resource manager specialising in how insects and plants can be used to support ecosystem services in human-managed environments.

Smith has professional experience in biosecurity, bioconversion, integrated pest management in international development, and is a board-appointed Director of the Australian Entomological Society.

About the Australian Pollinator Count (7-15 November)

The Australian Pollinator Count is an annual, nine-day festival all about celebrating Australia’s diverse pollinators and the important role they play in pollinating plants, particularly in Southern Hemisphere Spring.

It is a designated week when communities, businesses and organisations can come together to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators and support their needs.

The 2026 Australian Pollinator Count runs between 7 - 15 November.
