Hailing from the rugged creative landscape of Nipaluna (Hobart), Poltergeist 9000 is a high-decibel synth-punk duo existing at the volatile intersection of visual art and visceral noise. Built on a foundation of DIY ethos, the band pushes the classic drum-and-bass format through a blender of hyper-energetic punk and industrial grit. Drawing inspiration from the frantic architecture of Lightning Bolt, the audacity of The Garden, and the electronic carnage of The Prodigy, the duo has become a formidable staple of the Australian alternative scene.
‘A dance-punk, high energy experience to get a lil silly to (or very silly to I should say)’ - Claire Mooney (Triple J Music Director)
The band’s career is marked by a series of high-intensity achievements, including a prolific 2024 that saw the release of two full-length albums, Warhol’s Kiss and I Can See Pam and Her Legendary Hands. Their output has garnered significant critical acclaim, with the lead single "Higher Frequencies" premiering on triple j Unearthed and U.S. tastemaker Idioteq. This success extends to their visual identity, as music videos for "Wild One" and "Higher Frequencies" have secured high rotation on ABC’s RAGE, cementing their reputation for curated visual chaos.
As a formidable live force, Poltergeist 9000 has traversed the country supporting heavyweights such as CIVIC, Powerplant (UK), Wargasm (UK), and Posseshot. They have become mainstays on the festival circuit, delivering standout sets at Chalk Fest, Pinch Fest, Lawn Fest, and WINGS Fashion Week (tonight)
