THE ANTHEM OF THE DESERT PEA SONG

More than just a melody, this song is a profound narrative that echoes our shared history and the path toward healing and reconciliation. "The Anthem of the Pea" is a stirring tribute to those who have both died on country and for country. It is an anthem for remembrance, a call to arms for all Australians to honour the past while building a hopeful future.

The Anthem of the Desert Pea Lyrics

Across the heart of our wide land

Flowers black and red

Write a song of memory

And sing LEST WE FORGET

They grow beside the poppies tall

And bow their scarlet head

For those who died on our country

We’ll sing LEST WE FORGET

CHORUS

LEST WE FORGET

LEST WE FORGET

This is our country’s cradle song

LEST WE FORGET

LEST WE FORGET

We speak the truth

So we can right the wrong

Verse 2.

Australia has a history

First Peoples died and bled

So grew the precious desert pea

To sing LEST WE FORGET

Australians all let us rejoice

For we are one and free

And those who died upon our soil

Were loved like you and me.

CHORUS

With acknowledgement to all the First Nations where the Desert Pea roams
