    Event description

Thank you for your interest in our Community discussion panel on climate!

This public forum is an opportunity to explore the ample common ground and areas of disagreement on this important issue, practicing respectful climate change discussion as a constructive basis for moving forward as we move forward. Our Panelists are locals from diverse political leanings and walks of life, bringing in different perspectives, concerns, and solutions.

    WHO?

MC: Ross Cargill, Managing Director of Men and Women at Work.

Panel Facilitator: Jane Evans, Adjunct Senior Lecturer at CSU.

    Panelists:

    •   Leslie Williams - Port Macquarie State Member of Parliament
    •       Dr Gordon Burch - Former SCAS Chairman, scientist, steward/owner three Comboyne avocado farms.
    •   Teresa Cochrane – Proud young Dunghutti Gumbaynggirr woman studying environmental science and management at CSU
    •       Dr Angela Frimberger - Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce, Veterinary oncologist, Deputy Chair Veterinarians for Climate Action.
    •   Peter Johnson – Board Member of Eco-Tourism Australia, owner Diamond Waters Eco Resort, Camden Haven.
    •       Georgia Ritchie – Medical Oncologist at MNCLHD Cancer Institute
    •       Brian Tierney – Long-time local developer and active community member

Why now? Community members may be aware that Port Macquarie- Hastings Council has recently rescinded its previous Climate Emergency Declaration. However, fewer people know that Council is moving toward revoking Council's general Climate Policy.  This prompted several Councillors (Sheppard, Lipovac, Edwards and Intemann) to organise a respectful and fact-based community discussion on climate in the local context, as a basis for constructive action into the future. (**Please note that this is not a ‘Council’ event. Rather, these Councillors consider this issue is of sufficient community interest that this event is organised independently.**)
