Portrait Party! hosted by Amateur Hour Sydney
Event description
We’re excited to announce Maja, Lena and Abby's local casual creative community Amateur Hour has returned, and this time we’re hosting a Portrait Party! This event is directly inspired by the incredible Jaslyn Brown and her Sydney portrait exchange event series - check out @portrait_exchange and @jaaslynbrown and attend her events!
What is a portrait exchange, you might ask?
A portrait exchange is a social portrait drawing event where you create and receive artwork. Sitting opposite someone, a familiar face or someone you meet that arvo, you will each draw each other’s portrait, gifting the finished artwork to the sitter.
Where is it?
The iconic inner west institution Lord Gladstone has kindly invited us to exclusively use their Goodspace Gallery and a upstairs bar area to draw, drink and eat to our hearts content
12:30PM - Maja and Lena will be there grabbing a pub lunch (optional ofc but fun)
2PM - official drawing proceedings will begin
5PM - wrap up - but there’s a comedy night and DJ night at the pub for those who want to kick on
Pay what you can pricing!
We're excited to offer a 'pay what you can' ticket pricing for this event! This means you get to decide how much you'd like to contribute for your ticket. Whether you're on a budget or feeling generous, we welcome you to join us and enjoy the experience without any financial stress. Your support, at any amount - even if just a gold coin - is greatly appreciated and helps make this event possible for everyone.
Everyone is Welcome!
Amateur Hour's creative community events attract a diverse crowd, from practicing artists to those who haven’t drawn since primary school - this session is beginner friendly
Portrait Exchange is a judgement-free zone and a safe space to explore portrait drawing in whatever way feels most authentic. Furthermore, we can fit quite a few people in the venue, so we welcome +1s and friends! Open invite
Drawing reciprocal portraits is a fun and fascinating study in perception, a unique experience where everyone leaves more connected —and with a piece of art made for exclusively for them! All you need to bring is your fav drawing equipment (e.g., rumpled journal you haven’t touched since you were 10) + a pen.
See you soon!
