Tasmania as one of the world's first carbon neutral visitor destinations.

It's a bold ambition that will require a concerted effort and investment by government and industry to achieve.

In its T21 partnership agreement with the Tasmanian Government, the Tasmanian tourism industry - represented by Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) - prioritised initiatives that will establish Tasmania as a global leader in responsible and sustainable tourism. Included in this is a vision for Tasmania to be among the world's truly carbon-neutral visitor destinations - clearly separating Tasmania from the pack in an increasingly carbon-conscious travel market with more visitor seeking genuinely sustainable travel options.

Through Covid there has been a lot of work done in understanding the challenges and opportunities for Tasmania in committing to the carbon neutrality goal. There are relatively quick and practical measures we can introduce now in our own businesses and industry, as well as complex policy and structural challenges that extend well beyond the tourism space.

So, how are we going? What have we learned? And what's next?

A Carbon Neutral Destination Tasmania? - Tourism Industry Forum will provide a short, sharp industry update, outlining some of the key findings and issues we've learned, and the next steps that we need to take as an industry if we are truly committed to this carbon-neutrality goal.

We'll hear short, sharp presentations from key authorities on the opportunities, risk and challenges for Tasmania in embarking on a pathway towards Carbon Neutrality.
