    Event description

Workers coming to Aotearoa from the Pacific through the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme often face challenges in their employment, such as exploitation and poor working and living conditions. These issues not only affect their experience in Aotearoa but highlight a broader need for support and advocacy in ensuring their fair treatment and wellbeing.

Our post-Mayday webinar will look at some of the challenges facing RSE workers, highlighting key findings from Te Kāhui Tika Tangata Human Rights Commission reports, and examples from the Workers Advice Centre in Samoa, set up by Samoa First Union and funded by UnionAID.  Speakers will discuss the importance of initiatives like the Workers Advice Centre, in educating and supporting workers to ensure they understand their rights and can advocate for themselves and seek fair treatment and justice.

    Speakers:

    • Chair: Edward Miller, First Union, New Zealand
    • Saina Tomi, Samoa First Union,
    • Commissioner Saunoamaali’i Dr Karanina Sumeo, Te Kāhui Tika TangataΒ Human Rights Commission
