UnionAID Fundraiser for Myanmar: The Salt of the Earth
Event description
UnionAID is offering this as a one-off opportunity to see this compelling and thought-provoking documentary directed by Wim Wenders, thanks to Cuba Lighthouse Cinema. If you were unlucky enough to have missed it a few years ago, hurry and book now for July 2nd 6pm.
Salt of the Earth has been called a “stunning visual ode to the photographer Sebastião Salgado, long recognised as one of the camera’s great artists…[his] use of light and space is combined with a great empathy for the human condition, resulting in richly complex black and white images that capture the dignity within every subject.” (Cannes Film Review)
The documentary explores Salgado’s work in South America, Africa and central Europe, paying tribute to peoples who are dispossessed. Later in life, it shows his experimental technique replanting his family’s farm in Brazil, which has become a model for reforestation around the world.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Myanmars democracy movement.
