Your Pop Life! Poster making workshop with Brady Michaels
Event description
In ‘My Pop Life’ Brady Michaels uses the power of the poster as a medium for information sharing and message making. Each poster tells a version of the truth of Brady’s experience being a queer teenager in 1980s Tasmania.
Now it’s your turn! Join 'My Pop Life' artist Brady Michaels for a poster making and collage workshop and remix your past for a better future. Bring along your own 2D personal artefacts (photos, posters, magazines) to add to a design using traditional cut-and-paste techniques. The result will be an empowerment poster that tells your own story in your unique style.
Brady will provide paper and materials to incorporate into your poster designs, from a huge collection of vintage magazines and other ephemera - and a late 1980s soundtrack of pop music to get you in the mood.
This workshop is for queer people and their allies. As a member of a marginalised group, asserting agency as narrator allows us to reclaim our stories and shed some light on truths that often exist in the shadows of history. So, let’s raise our voices and make some posters! Participants will also have the opportunity to have their posters displayed as part of the My Pop Life exhibition.
