Pottery Handbuilding - Term 4 2026- Tutor Alda Hubbard

Learn the fundamentals of hand-building with clay and explore the creative possibilities of this versatile medium in a fun, relaxed, and friendly studio environment.

Suitable for beginners, this course provides students with the fundamental skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience of working with clay under the guidance of an experienced and skilled tutor. The flexibility of hand-building offers endless opportunities for creating a wide variety of forms, from functional ware to sculptural pieces.

Each week, a different technique will be demonstrated and supervised by the tutor, allowing students to develop new skills and achieve a range of creative outcomes.

Intermediate and experienced students may choose to follow the weekly project or discuss their own ideas with the tutor and work independently at their own pace, with guidance and support provided as required.

Requirements

• Enclosed footwear is essential.

• Please bring your own pottery tools, apron, and towel.

• All students are required to use their own tools.

Materials and Firing

Materials and firing costs are included in the course fee and cover:

• A bag of stoneware clay

• One bisque firing

• One glaze firing

Please note that work exceeding 3 kg in firing weight will incur additional firing charges.

Studio Responsibilities

Students are responsible for cleaning their personal workspace at the end of each class in preparation for the next session.

A roster system for vacuuming and mopping the studio after each class will be organised.
