Purse & Patriarchy: Who gets the wealth?
Event description
A Women’s Giving Circle Conversation on Wealth, Power & Change
Thursday 24 July | Byron Surf Club
Australia is on the cusp of the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in history. Over the next two decades, more than $3.5 trillion will change hands, presenting not just an economic shift, but a generational opportunity to rethink who holds power, how it's used, and who is excluded.
In this Women's Giving Circle conversation, we’ll explore the gendered realities of money — from superannuation gaps and financial abuse to the invisibility of women in major financial decisions and the unacknowledged mental load of household budgeting.
Together, we’ll unpack the cultural, structural, and emotional barriers that continue to lock women — particularly older women, migrants, carers, and victim-survivors — out of economic independence. And we’ll spotlight how women are reclaiming financial agency through community giving, ethical investing, and money stories rooted in dignity, safety, and self-determination.
Panel Members:
Lorraine Dawson - CEO Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre
