Powerskill Panel - Unlearning to Lead: How AI is Rewriting the Rules of Leadership Auckland
Description
Auckland we can't wait to see you!
We are back with another Powerskill Panel
Leadership skills that took years to build - being the expert in the room, having the answer, controlling the process - are exactly the instincts AI is making obsolete. This panel explores what women leaders are having to unlearn (command-and-control instincts, perfectionism before output, gatekeeping expertise) to lead effectively in an AI-augmented workplace, and what's replacing it (curating over knowing, judgment over control, speed over polish).
This session, hosted by Her Tech Circle in partnership with BNZ, is a realistic look at that shift: the decisions and moments that actually shape a leadership path in the era of AI and the challenges that come with pivoting leadership styles.
We will explore:
— Leadership habits that needed to be actively 'unlearned'
— Where 'having the right answer' has become less valuable than 'asking the right question'
— How to lead when the tools are changing faster than the org chart
— What trust looks like when you're delegating to an AI system instead of a person
What makes this different
This is a warm, grounded conversation about what the transition in leadership really looks like in the current AI climate - particularly the parts that don't make it into the job description
Who it's for
— Individual contributors ready to step up into leadership
— New and emerging leaders in tech
— Anyone excited about the jump from strong performer to strategic leader
— Current leaders looking for different perspectives
You don't need a leadership title to belong here. If you're already thinking like a leader, or you're excited to grow into one, this session is for you. a clearer playbook for turning a promising prototype into something that actually works.

What is a #Powerskill Panel?
Let's be honest - they're called "soft skills" but they're actually the power skills that accelerate your tech career. Technical expertise will get you in the door, but skills like resilience, communication, boundary-setting, and navigating workplace challenges are what propel you forward.
Our #PowerSkillPanel series dedicates entire events to exploring these crucial capabilities through the real stories of women who've mastered them.
What to expect at Her Tech Circle Events
Coming alone? Perfect. Most of our attendees do! Our events are designed to make connection easy and comfortable, whether you're a seasoned networker or prefer to learn and observe.
Choose your own adventure with our connection style stickers as you enter. Simply grab your preferred sticker when you arrive and pop it on your name tag - it's a brilliant conversation starter and helps everyone respect each other's boundaries.
💚 "I'm looking for my next opportunity"
🧡 "I love networking and want to talk to everyone!"
💜 "I'm here to learn and grow - not networking"
💗 "Networking makes me anxious but I'm here for it"
All are welcome here. Regardless of how you identify, if you're passionate about supporting women in tech and creating a more inclusive industry, you belong in this circle.
Who are Her Tech Circle
We're a 100% volunteer-run organisation on a mission to reduce the attrition rate of women in the technology industry. Right now, 50% of women leave tech by age 35 - and we're not okay with that.
Our solution? Community. Through our values of intentional bravery, empowering together, and trust unconditionally, we create meaningful events and supportive spaces where women build the confidence and connections they need to not just stay in tech, but to thrive and build powerful, enduring careers.
