PowerUp a Career in Tech - Getting your first role in the local tech sector

Do you have tech experience, skills or qualifications and want to learn more about working in tech in NZ? Our third ‘Careers in Tech’ event is designed for women from diverse and international backgrounds who are looking to get into tech in NZ. But it’s open to all – if you’re interested in a Career in Tech, come along to this free, informal event to meet a range of local tech businesses across a variety of sectors and learn more about the tech work and recruitment culture in NZ.

What to expect: You will hear from women working in tech in Christchurch who come from international backgrounds talk about their experiences. Louisa Taylor, GM of Canterbury Tech will talk about techniques to start your career – how do you land that job you’re looking for? There will be an open forum for conversation about some of the challenges you might be encountering, and you’ll have the opportunity to have 1-1 conversations with local tech employers who are looking to recruit. There will be lots of friendly faces so don’t be afraid to come along on your own!

The New Zealand tech industry is a dynamic, fast-growing industry to work in. It offers higher than average salaries, a variety of roles and great career opportunities. The tech sector has an ongoing need for employees across all sorts of roles, and it’s not just coding or sitting in front of a computer! If you’re looking for a career change and have good communication skills, are a team player and like solving real-world problems, a career in tech could be for you.
