About the Facilitator:
Byron Coathup is a Murwillumbah based artist, graphic designer and project curator in public art. Since 2013, he has run galleries and art cooperatives and developed a diverse range of creative projects. These experiences have enabled him to identify and understand the key to conceptually rich and site-specific outcomes is by providing a supportive role for artists to realise their full potential. Â
Byron's art practice is expressed through his conceptual installations and self-initiated projects that often involve collaboration between invited artists. His drive to collaborate and curate a sense of community and belonging through his work is evident in his projects. His most ambitious work titled; Super Souvenir was a travelling site-specific project that was commissioned by the City of Gold Coast through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). This project invited artists to respond to the kitsch holiday souvenir with contemporary work displayed in a caravan; which later toured various festivals with stories revisited or introduced according to memory and place.
