Precious Pollinators with Dr Kit Prendergast
Event description
Join us in this special workshop to learn all about our indigenous bee biodiversity from native bee expert, Dr Kit Prendergast, and the ways we can best protect these precious pollinators through flower planting choice, nesting substrate creation, and raising awareness about the need to better understand and conserve native bees.
Dr Kit Prendergast is a native bee scientist and pollination ecologist. She has over 70 peer-reviewed publications, has conducted bee biodiversity surveys across Australia for Landcare groups, for local and state council, in collaboration with Traditional Land Owners, in agricultural contexts, conservation reserves, local bushland and more.
She has described a new species of native bee, and led a bushfire recovery project enabling the restoration of native bees after bushfires through bee hotels.
She is also an avid science communicator, has been featured on Gardening Australia, and has an award-winning scicomm show on pollination called 'The Birds & the Bees'.
She was a finalist in the WA Young Scientist of the Year in 2019, and in 2024 won the Curtin Alumni Young Achiever Award.
