Description

Join artists Julia Drouhin and Edith Perrenot to help create a collaborative embroidery work inspired by their ongoing project Prepare for the Plunge, which explores the act of swimming and floating as survival skills within our time of a changing climate and rising sea levels.

Together participants will embroider rubbish items found in the oceans onto a roll of tulle, and make aquarian masks out of upcycled fabric and trinkets. This workshop encourages participants to consider their own roles within the climate crisis through humour, creativity and discussion.

Everyone is welcome to contribute at their own pace, and no experience is needed. All materials are provided, but participants are welcome to bring any special fabrics or items they would like to use for their masks.

No experience needed, all materials provided.

Accessibility:

The space is mobility accessible. Blunt needles will be provided for the embroidery. The workshop facilitators can assist with any fine motor tasks if needed. Please contact us if you have concerns. About the artists:

Dr Julia Drouhin amplifies the sounds of social friction through radioscapes, installations, gatherings, and collaborative performances — from eating chocolate records to jumping on trampolines with broken plates. Based in Lutruwita, she is a member of the Tasmanian MIDI Orchestra and co-navigates the Sisters Akousmatica SEA HAG, a vessel for rogue broadcast and feminist transmission. She works with youth and artists with disabilities in local communities.

Edith Perrenot is a French artist, designer and maker of visual and performing arts who is based in Hobart/Nipaluna Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honors) from HEAR, France.

Her artistic practice explores the liminal space that characterises our contemporary cultural and sensitive landscapes. The poetics of hope and its quirks constitutes a focal point of her creative practice, serving as a radical filter that aims to elicit resilience, joy and humour while engaging with profound subjects.

Please note, this workshop has limited capacity. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket or get in touch.
