Residents in the Cecil Plains areas are invited to join us for a free half-day workshop - Preparing for Fire.

This session delivered by Healthy Land & Water’s Queensland Fire & Biodiversity Consortium, will discuss the ins and out of planned burns and fire ecology.

This half-day session includes:

An in-classroom general bushfire safety and preparedness discussion.
An interactive bushwalk at a site that is scheduled to undertake planned burns, by Toowoomba Regional Council.
A fuels estimation exercise and group discussion about burn objectives, burn plans, safety and regulations.

Walk away from the workshop with the ability to:

Identify vegetation types and key habitat.
Understand fuel loads.
Recognise fire history.
Monitor vegetation and wildlife.
Follow regulations for your area.
Understand how and why land managers plan burns.
For those managing vegetation on their properties, get practical advice from experienced fire experts on how to plan a burn.

Please come prepared for the bushwalk and talk! Make sure you have:

Closed in shoes.
Long pants, long sleeves.
Reusable water bottle.
Hat.
Sunscreen.
Rain jacket (if necessary).

Catering and supporting material will be provided for all participants.
