Preparing For Fire | Cecil Plains
Event description
Residents in the Cecil Plains areas are invited to join us for a free half-day workshop - Preparing for Fire.
This session delivered by Healthy Land & Water’s Queensland Fire & Biodiversity Consortium, will discuss the ins and out of planned burns and fire ecology.
This half-day session includes:
- An in-classroom general bushfire safety and preparedness discussion.
- An interactive bushwalk at a site that is scheduled to undertake planned burns, by Toowoomba Regional Council.
- A fuels estimation exercise and group discussion about burn objectives, burn plans, safety and regulations.
Walk away from the workshop with the ability to:
- Identify vegetation types and key habitat.
- Understand fuel loads.
- Recognise fire history.
- Monitor vegetation and wildlife.
- Follow regulations for your area.
- Understand how and why land managers plan burns.
- For those managing vegetation on their properties, get practical advice from experienced fire experts on how to plan a burn.
Please come prepared for the bushwalk and talk! Make sure you have:
- Closed in shoes.
- Long pants, long sleeves.
- Reusable water bottle.
- Hat.
- Sunscreen.
- Rain jacket (if necessary).
Catering and supporting material will be provided for all participants.
