Event description

Residents in the Cecil Plains areas are invited to join us for a free half-day workshop - Preparing for Fire.

This session delivered by Healthy Land & Water’s Queensland Fire & Biodiversity Consortium, will discuss the ins and out of planned burns and fire ecology.

This half-day session includes:

  • An in-classroom general bushfire safety and preparedness discussion.
  • An interactive bushwalk at a site that is scheduled to undertake planned burns, by Toowoomba Regional Council.
  • A fuels estimation exercise and group discussion about burn objectives, burn plans, safety and regulations.

Walk away from the workshop with the ability to:

  • Identify vegetation types and key habitat.
  • Understand fuel loads.
  • Recognise fire history.
  • Monitor vegetation and wildlife.
  • Follow regulations for your area.
  • Understand how and why land managers plan burns.
  • For those managing vegetation on their properties, get practical advice from experienced fire experts on how to plan a burn.

Please come prepared for the bushwalk and talk! Make sure you have:

  • Closed in shoes.
  • Long pants, long sleeves.
  • Reusable water bottle.
  • Hat.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Rain jacket (if necessary).

Catering and supporting material will be provided for all participants.
