Join us in celebration of Jewish-American Heritage Month!
We are delighted to host Jessica Rehfield and their presentation, Jew Outta Know…

Did you know some of your FAVORITE pop culture phenomena were created by Jewish-American artists and authors?

Artist and educator, Jessica Rehfield covers surprising cultural contributions in a one-hour talk featuring Leonard Nimoy and Spock’s famous Vulcan salute; The Princess Bride (William Goldman); The Last Unicorn (Peter S. Beagle); The Snowy Day (Ezra Jack Keats), The Mandalorian and the bonus history of how a Jewish-American song defeated the Nazis, in Bai Mir Bistu Sheyn. Learn about these and other beloved cultural icons in celebration of Jewish-American Heritage Month. 

When: Wednesday, May 28 from 6-7pm.

Where: In the Annex at the Bush Barn Art Center and Annex

(You are invited to arrive early and learn about opportunities for volunteering for Art Fair during the Salem Art Fair and Festival Volunteer Recruitment Open House happening in the Camas Gallery at 5:30pm).

Jessica Rehfield (They/them) is a visual artist and educator who creates community programs to share information about Jewish and queer identities. Born in Alaska, their Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art is from University of Alaska Southeast and they hold an MFA in Craft from Oregon College of Art and Craft. Jessica has been a Fellow with Co/Lab:Art/Lab in Portland and a resident artist with The Arts Center (Corvallis), Eastside Jewish Commons (Portland), and Salem Art Association (Salem). They have created and curated exhibits Queer Love, The Art of Drag, and TWO SPIRIT: Indigenous Drag Perspectives on Climate Change in collaboration with queer indigenous drag artists and co-authored a 10-artist zine (Queer MIS/representation). They currently work with students at schools, universities and non-profit arts organizations. Visit jessicarehfield.com for their work.
