Preserving

Event description

Are you wondering what to do with all those apples, plums and peaches that are ready now in the garden??

Why not bottle them or turn them into relish or jam and then share with others!

Join experienced preserver and bottler Marion Perkins, to learn how to preserve those precious foods - for yourself and to share with others.

Bring your own homegrown fruit and preserving jars if you have them. We will have some spare jars to share, as well as a great communal cooking and preparing space at Staveley Camp. This job is so much more fun when working together! So even if you already know how to preserve, come along with your fruit and let's do it together.

You will learn how to bottle fruit and perhaps you can make jam, relish or sauce as well. If you have an idea of what you want to make, bring the recipe & ingredients required.

If you don't have anything to preserve, you are still most welcome to come along to get ideas, recipes and tips for doing it yourself later. I'm sure others will be happy to have your help with chopping and preparing their fruit.

This is a FREE event, but limited to 15 people, so get your free ticket today!

This event is put on by Neighbourhood Support, Mid Canterbury Newcomers Network, Volunteering Mid and South Canterbury & Keep Learning Mid Canterbury, to promote Neighbours Aotearoa month. The theme this year is Let's Share. We will be sharing skills and food through this workshop and helping you produce some goodies you can share with your neighbours during the month. We will also have a box for the Hakatere Marae Foodbank, if you want to share a jar or two with them.
