Human Sustainability in Tourism : Preventing Burnout and Building Resilient Teams

Tourism and hospitality are dynamic, people-focused industries — and with that comes high emotional demand, seasonal pressure and increasing psychosocial risk. This interactive workshop supports tourism organisations to move beyond reactive wellbeing approaches and instead build sustainable, resilient and psychologically safe workplaces where people can perform at their best.

This workshop brings together psychological safety, nervous system regulation, emotional resilience and healthy team culture, offering practical, evidence-informed tools that can be applied immediately in fast-paced tourism environments — especially during peak season.

Through fun and engaging ways, participants will explore how stress, emotional load and burnout show up in the body and mind, how nervous system states influence behaviour, performance and communication, and how leaders and teams can actively reduce psychosocial hazards while strengthening connection, clarity and capacity at work.

MEET THE PRESENTER:

Jo Surkitt: Positive Change Facilitator and Practitioner

Jo Surkitt is a Wellness Facilitator, Educator and Practitioner with over 25 years’ experience working across corporate, tourism and wellbeing industries. Passionate about helping people create positive change, Jo supports individuals and teams to prevent burnout, build sustainable habits and improve mental, emotional and physical wellbeing so they can thrive both personally and professionally.
