Geraldton Workshop - Preventing the Hard-to-Heal Transition: Minimising the Risk of Wound Progression in Primary Care. WACRH, 167 Fitzgerald Street, Geraldton WA
Description
Preventing the Hard-to-Heal Transition: Minimising the Risk of Wound Progression in Primary Care
An interactive, four-hour wound management workshop for nurses working in general practice, aged care and other primary healthcare settings.
What if we could prevent more acute wounds from becoming hard-to-heal?
Many hard-to-heal wounds begin as relatively minor injuries. Without timely assessment and appropriate intervention, a simple skin tear or area of moisture-associated skin damage can progress to a complex wound, resulting in prolonged healing, increased healthcare costs and reduced quality of life.
Preventing the Hard-to-Heal Transition is an innovative, evidence-based workshop that explores how early clinical decisions can influence wound outcomes. Through interactive case studies, participants will examine the factors contributing to wound deterioration and, importantly, the opportunities to intervene before wounds become hard-to-heal.
Two Case Studies – Real Clinical Challenges
Case Study 1 – From Skin Tear to Leg Ulcer
Explore how an acute traumatic wound can progress to a hard-to-heal leg ulcer in the presence of underlying vascular disease, comorbidities and other barriers to healing. Identify opportunities for early assessment, intervention and referral.
Case Study 2 – When Moisture Meets Pressure
Examine the relationship between moisture-associated skin damage, compromised skin integrity and increased susceptibility to pressure injury development. Explore practical strategies for prevention, skin protection and early intervention.
What Will You Learn?
Through facilitated discussion and practical case-study analysis, participants will explore:
· Wound healing: The physiology of healing and factors contributing to delayed healing.
· Holistic assessment: Identifying underlying aetiology, establishing goals of care and appropriate referral pathways.
· Contemporary evidence: Applying clinical guidelines and international consensus recommendations to everyday practice.
· Wound bed assessment: Using the TIME framework to identify barriers to healing and establish treatment priorities.
· Evidence-based product selection: Wound hygiene, wound bed preparation and management of tissue, infection, exudate and wound edges.
· Preventing deterioration: Recognising risks early and implementing interventions to minimise wound progression.
Why Attend?
Move beyond simply treating wounds to understanding why wounds deteriorate and how that progression can be prevented.
This practical workshop will strengthen your clinical assessment, decision-making and confidence in applying evidence-based interventions to improve wound outcomes.
Duration: Four hours | Interactive, case-based learning
