BUNDABERG Preventing Vicarious and Cumulative Trauma Training

This vital training is aimed at preventing Vicarious and Cumulative Trauma in those who work in the community service sector.

It will increase awareness and explore: 
• Potentially Traumatic Events (PTEs) and the different types of exposure that exist.
• Protective factors, risk factors and early warning signs of impact
• Practical strategies before, during and after exposure to minimise exposure, prevent harm and enhance posttraumatic growth
• Trauma-informed workplace principles and how to provide trauma-informed support and case study application
• Escalation pathways within the sector and community and building your own wellbeing action plan

About your facilitator:

Mark Oostergo is the CEO & Principal Psychologist of Australian Psychological Services.

He has experience across diverse areas of practice, including serving for nearly a decade in the Australian Army as a Psychology Officer and providing psychological interventions both in Australia and overseas as well as working with Australia’s elite special forces. 

Mark concluded his career in the military as the commander of a health centre with over a hundred staff across multiple allied health professions which earned him an Australian Defence Force Gold Commendation for his motivational and supportive leadership in this role. 

Since leaving the service, Mark has worked across industry in human factors, human performance, workplace mental health and psychosocial risk management and has a passion for delivering tailored workplace interventions to promote positive mental health. 

He is experienced in geographically dispersed workforces including conducting psychosocial risk assessments in remote Northern Territory and, at policy level, Mark led the co-design of the sector wide Mental Health strategy for NSW Police and Emergency Services.

Despite his achievements, Mark prides himself on taking a practical and applied approach to psychology and communicating  complex subject matter in a way that is easily accessible.

• You must work in a frontline service delivery role in the Community Sector

• Must be based in Bundaberg, Childers, Hervey Bay or Howard areas

• Must commit to letting us know ASAP if you cannot attend to allow attendance by another worker.
