Pride Month Movie Night
Event description
Come and join us for a Deckchair experience in a pew!
An optional and delicious BBQ dinner will be served from 5.30pm with live music in our courtyard, then we will move into the church for the movie at 7pm. (BYO Cushion and Movie Treats!)
After the movie we have a panel of caring Ministers from the UCA and Salvation Army plus an esteemed Professor ready to answer all your questions, facilitated by Laura Strickland-Lewis of Darwin Bookshop fame.
This is an LGBTQIA+ safe and affirming space and we ask all participants to be kind and thoughtful in their questions.
The "1946" movie delves into the work behind the English translation of the Revised Standard Version which, in 1946, was the very first translation to include the word "homosexual” in the Bible.
No matter what you believe the Bible says on this, we invite you to attend this movie so you can learn about the translation process, the consequences of seemingly small decisions, the lives of those who did the research, and to consider your thoughts around some of these key passages.
This is an important, engaging, intriguing and inspiring documentary that all Christians, those with a Christian background, LGBTQIA+ people and advocates or the just plain curious won’t want to miss.
