Primary Care Response to Domestic & Family Violence - Mount Gambier

This workshop will equip GPs, GP Registrars, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals with essential skills to recognise, respond to, and refer cases of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV). Gain trauma-informed tools tailored to the unique complexities of rural practice, from managing small-town confidentiality to conducting safe screenings and coordinating warm handovers with local specialist services.


LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Identify rural DFSV risk indicators, red flags, and coercive control dynamics across children, individuals and families.

• Conduct routine and opportunistic DFSV screenings using trauma-informed communication.

• Respond to disclosures effectively and evaluate immediate safety risks using standardised clinical tools.

• Collaborate with patients to formulate practical safety plans tailored to rural challenges.

• Facilitate effective warm handovers, multi-agency referrals and local crisis pathways with the Limestone Coast region.

• Navigate mandatory reporting requirements, privacy contraints, and information-sharing rules in a rural context.

• Apply practical strategies to support wellbeing of the practitioner who is managing vicarious trauma.
