The Astra Choir and soloists

A shared birthday celebration of two of Australia's prominent electronic composers, premiering new compositions incorporating choir, which reach into wider political-cultural histories:
Steve Stelios Adam (65 on 6 October). Greek-language prison poems by the composer's communist great-aunt from the 1950s, jailed in the period of authoritarian rule in Greece. Solo and choral texts of the interior and exterior are placed among live-processed and surround sound.
Warren Burt (75 on 10 October) vocal ensemble and electronics are the acoustic setting for the words of the NZ poet and political activist Rewi Alley, who lived for 60 years in China from 1927.
Further choral works by Claudio Monteverdi, Donald Martino and Stefan Wolpe.
