Private Art Talk and Exhibition Viewing of "An Imagined Place: Satpreet Kahlon"
Description
Join us for an evening of art, reflection, and conversation at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.
Together, we’ll experience an imagined place (here and now), a powerful multimedia installation by Satpreet Kahlon, followed by a facilitated group discussion.
Transforming PICA’s expansive main gallery into an immersive landscape of sound, sculpture, and moving image, Kahlon’s work invites us into a speculative universe shaped by deep time, memory, and possibility. At its center is a monumental, hand-built “quasi-moon” — a fictional celestial body inspired by a recently discovered asteroid that quietly orbits alongside Earth.
Through this poetic narrative, the exhibition explores themes of longing, fugitivity, environmental futures, and the emotional lives of nonhuman entities. A richly layered soundscape and visual environment blur the boundaries between cosmic and personal histories, offering a space to reflect on connection, survival, and what it means to belong.
After experiencing the installation, we’ll gather for a guided conversation to share impressions, questions, and personal reflections. No prior art knowledge needed — just curiosity and openness.
