Overview

Join us for this conversation where we will talk about renting options in the mainstream private rental market - how to find and apply for a new rental home, how to get home modifications, and other issues that you might have.

This follows our recent Lunchtime Conversation on Decision Making. You can find some of the resources from that Conversation here. In the coming weeks we will also talk more about Sharing Homes, and Individualised Living Options.

Part 1: Getting Ready to Rent

Decision-making
Identification of where and with whom to live
Readying to rent - things that you need to consider, including budgeting
Maintaining a tenancy.

Part 2: Residential Tenancy Law

Responsibilities of the Landlord (Provision of home modifications, allowance for pets, etc.)
Responsibilities of the tenant
Extending a lease/ Breaking a lease
Advocacy support with issues.

We will offer a range of resources and tools that will assist people to rent.

The Opening the Door project is also developing other resources to assist people with exercising choice and control with where they live.

More about the Opening the Door project

This event is one of a series of Lunchtime Conversations being delivered through the Opening the Door project. Online sessions are recorded to view after the event.

The Opening the Door project aims to support people with disability to achieve choice and control with their housing options through:

Developing and sharing online resources
Forums designed to both share information and gather experiences
Support existing and establish new peer networks.

The project is for all people with disability regardless of their type of disability or age, and whether they are a participant in the NDIS or not.

To coordinate your attendance at the event, and provide you with additional resources related to the event
